In Memoriam: Robert Leslie Smith Jr.
Robert (Bob) Leslie Smith, Jr. died peacefully on the evening of Sept. 6, 2025, surrounded by family.
Smith was born on Jan. 10, 1935, in Benson, North Carolina, where he would meet his wife, Jackie. The two were married on June 27, 1956. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1959 and began his career in the office technology industry that same year with Monroe Systems for Business. In 1985, Smith started Copiers Plus in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he served dutifully as CEO and president until his death.
Smith was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leslie Smith Sr., and mother, Margaret Benton Smith.
He is survived by his wife Jacquelin Smith of the home, four children: Ricky Smith and wife Donna (Greenville, South Carolina), Tim Smith and wife Jacki (Fayetteville, North Carolina), Leslie Smith of the home, David Smith and Sallie (Raleigh, North Carolina), five grandchildren: Ryan Smith and Brooke, Amy Smith, Eric Smith and Molly, Stephanie Miller and Roger, Drew Smith and Jess, nine great grandchildren: Elsey, Sadey, Bonnie, Harper, Hadley, Hank, Henley, Hudson and Addison, and loving caretaker Kathy Colosky.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Hope Mills Methodist Church, 4955 Legion Rd., Hope Mills, North Carolina. There will be public visitations preceding the memorial services at Hope Mills Methodist Church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Bob's honor to Hope Mills Methodist Church or the Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear Foundation.
