Epson Supports Earth Hour to Inspire Millions to Take Energy-Saving Actions for the Planet
This year, Epson is supporting Earth Hour, the world's largest grassroots environmental movement. Earth Hour brings the world together to shine a spotlight on nature loss and the climate crisis, and to galvanize people to act and advocate for urgent change. Epson joins this movement with the hope to inspire millions of people to take energy-saving action for the benefit of the planet.
Since its beginning 17 years ago, Earth Hour has been known for its "lights off" moment — a symbolic action to raise awareness of the environmental issues the planet is facing. Every year in late March, it engages supporters in more than 190 countries and territories to take part in helping to build a brighter future for people and our one shared home. In 2023, Earth breathed new life into the movement and created the "Biggest Hour for Earth" by achieving 410,000 hours on its Hour Bank — an online counter of planet-positive activities — and this year it aims to be even bigger.
In support of Earth Hour 2024 campaign, Epson activates its Epson Group, with sales offices worldwide, to encourage people around the world to take simple energy saving actions for our planet. Epson is also hosting activity booths to engage the public at Earth Hour events in Singapore (Scheduled location: Wisma Atria Shopping Mall) and Japan (Scheduled location: Urban dock LaLaport TOYOSU).
Epson is publicly committed to becoming carbon negative and underground resource free in its Environmental Vision 2050. Epson aims to achieve its goal of decarbonization through implementation of various initiatives such as increasing the efficiency of electricity use and switching to 100% renewable electricity at all Epson Group sites. Epson also believes that innovating products and services that consume less electricity helps to reduce the environmental burden on society. In support of this campaign, Epson hopes to inspire more people to be eco-conscious in their everyday lives and take energy saving actions towards a better, cleaner future together.
"Since our founding, we have had a strong commitment to coexisting with the community and to ongoing activities aimed at preserving the natural environment," said Yasunori Ogawa, global president, Epson. "While fulfilling our mission as a company, we also believe in the importance of everyone joining to take action. Even small actions can make a big difference if enough people participate. Through this partnership, we hope to expand understanding and empathy for environmental activities and provide an opportunity for as many people as possible to act."
"Epson exemplifies its collaborative approach in support of this year's Earth Hour," said Yves Calmette, senior director of brand and network communications, Earth Hour International. "Together we can unleash the power of collective action — but we need everyone's involvement to make it the Biggest Hour for Earth yet. We want Earth Hour to be a moment of celebration for our one shared home - our planet. Earth Hour isn't just about acknowledging the problem; it's about celebrating the solutions. It is our beacon of hope, so that we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for all."
Earth Hour is at 8:30 p.m. local time on March 23 around the world.
