DocuWare Shares AIIM Study Showing Accelerated Adoption of AI in Document Processing
DocuWare has shared insights from the Association for Intelligent Information Management (AIIM) "Market Momentum Index: Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) Survey 2025," unveiling significant changes in how organizations are leveraging AI for document processing.
The AIIM, with research undertaken by Deep Analysis, released this study of 600 enterprises spanning major industries in the United States and Europe, which highlights a pivotal shift in the intelligent document processing (IDP) market, fuelled by rapid AI adoption, changing use cases and evolving buyer behavior.
The report underscores four critical priorities for enterprise transformation: managing unstructured data across increasingly complex systems; adopting a holistic, end-to-end approach to workflow automation; leveraging process mining to identify opportunities for AI-driven gains; and addressing the persistent reliance on paper-based processes.
Key data findings from the survey include:
- AI adoption surges — 78% of companies are now operational with AI, signifying a leap from previous market concerns around stalled pilots and readiness gaps.
- Security top of agenda — Data security and privacy remain the top challenge for IDP implementation, reflecting growing urgency around AI governance and compliance.
- Shift to front line — 62% of IDP systems now involve external users, driven by use cases expanding beyond invoices and claims into customer-facing workflows like KYC, contracts, HR files and licensing.
- GenAI redefines vendor discovery — Generative AI is now the leading method for researching IDP solutions, reshaping how buyers evaluate and select vendors.
- Paper still holds ground — Despite digital transformation, 61% of IDP workflows still rely on paper and 48% of enterprises expect paper volumes to rise next year.
"AI is fundamentally changing how enterprises engage with intelligent document processing, retiring legacy systems, reshaping expectations and unlocking new levels of efficiency and insight," said Dr. Michael Berger, CEO, DocuWare. "We're witnessing a redefinition of what's possible. AI is both the spark for innovation and the force challenging longstanding norms. This is purposeful disruption and it's only just beginning."
"Our collaboration with Deep Analysis and industry leaders such as DocuWare highlights how rapidly this market is evolving," said Tori Miller Liu, president and CEO, AIIM. "The research shows both the opportunities and challenges ahead — from the persistent role of paper to the growing demand for secure, AI-powered workflows. This report is a call to action for organizations to rethink their information strategies and embrace the next generation of intelligent automation."
